What to expect?

The consultation is probably the most important part of your case. This is when we explain whether you have a viable case and if so, what strategy we will use for success!

What not to expect?

During the consultation, the attorney will definitively not explain how to conduct the case without the assistance of an attorney, or how to prepare or improve your paperwork for filing.

Please do not pay for the consultation if your intention is to obtain information from the attorney to prepare and file the case yourself. In short, we will not give legal advice for to how to prepare a case to be filed without contracting our services.

Who should come to an appointment?

The applicant or potential immigrant must be present during the consultation, either in person or by phone. If the applicant or potential immigrant is not in the United States the consultation may not happen in person and a phone appointment will have to be scheduled. We prefer that the petitioner is also present when the case is a family immigration petition.

No other individuals, such as children will be permitted to attend an in-person consultation. Please do not discuss matters not related to your case as they will not be answered and will only take up time from your consultation.

If you must bring children to the office, you must also bring a babysitter to stay with the children while you go into the attorney’s office. If there is no one to watch your children the appointment will be cancelled.

Who starts the call?

Telephone, Skype or in-person appointments, are also expected to begin as scheduled. For telephone appointments you must call the office 10 minutes before the scheduled consultation and it is your responsibility to initiate the call. If the consultation will be conducted via Skype, you must call our office 10 minutes before the scheduled time to provide your Skype’s username to our receptionist.

Existing or potential clients calling or arriving more than 10 minutes late, REGARDLESS OF THE REASON, are considered to have missed their appointment and will be asked to reschedule. If the consultation begins late due to the client’s responsibility, the consultation will end at the scheduled ending time regardless of not having the entire 30 minutes consultation time. We have appointments scheduled every 30 minutes and we will respect everyone’s appointments.

Any special instructions for Garden City and Wichita?

These appointments are scheduled weeks (sometimes months)  in advance and availability is very limited.  If you miss your appointment or arrive more than 10 minutes late and wish to reschedule, the cost of the new consultation will be $100 for 30 minutes of consultation. However, if you cancel your appointment and give us at least a 24 hour notice, our office will reschedule your appointment at the original consultation rate. It is very important that you give us notice at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, so that we may try to fill that slot in with another client in our waiting list.

What is the reimbursement policy?

No refunds will be given once the consultation begins. We cannot guarantee that the attorney will take your case and the consultation fee will not be reimbursed if the attorney decides not to take your case. If the attorney decides to take your case the cost of the consultation will be credited towards the total cost of the case, if you enter into a contract with us within 30 days of the consultation.

If the consultation has been paid in advance, there will not be a reimbursement once the appointment has begun. If the potential client wishes to cancel the appointment and gives 24 hour notice, the reimbursement request will be honored and reimbursement given. If the potential client misses the appointment and requests a reimbursement in-lieu of rescheduling, the law office will charge an administrative fee of $25 to process the reimbursement.

What if my question can't be answered right away?

For most cases we do not have to do legal research to render a legal opinion. However, in some cases we may need to update our knowledge of the existing law to give you the best legal advice. If we cannot give you a legal opinion on the same day of your consultation, we will have an answer for you within one week of your scheduled appointment.

What is the cost?

In-person consultations for new cases are $80, and should be paid at the time of the consultation. Telephone and Skype appointments are $100 payable at the time of the scheduling of the appointment.  The costs are subject to the rules mentioned above.
